Pros Try to Keep Golf Lessons Simple, John Hoskison
Golf lessons from a pro will help improve a golf swing, but often amateurs are worried a golf lesson will lead to major swing changes - but pros try to keep it simple.

Golf lessons will help but most club golfers never reach their full potential because they are reticent to have a lesson from a pro. Often they are worried the pro will make major changes to their golf swing, or they are too embarrassed to let a pro see what they perceive is a poor swing. But in nearly all cases these fears are unfounded, pros try to keep golf lessons and golf tuition simple.

Normally pros try to keep lessons as simple as possible knowing the club golfer hasn’t much time to practice, and no matter how oddly you think your swing is, the pro has seen it all before. Following are some of the simple things a pro looks for when teaching a golfer, and the subtle changes that have to be made to improve a golf swing.

What a Pro Looks for During a Golf Lesson

The first thing a pro looks at is the way you stand to the ball. The golf swing is a chain reaction, the better your stance, the easier it is to swing the club correctly. Subtle changes to the address position can have a dramatic effect on the swing and the pro will be looking at the golfers grip, posture and aim to see if there are any small changes that will help.

Having a lesson is rather like someone seeing a doctor because they generally don't feel well.. After one or two checks the doctor will mostly be interested in the life style of the patient and in many circumstances will suggest a new diet or some exercise.

These are minor changes that may have a dramatic affect on the patient’s health. He certainly won’t suggest immediate open-heart surgery. Golf pros know that a small change to your grip or stance will make significant changes to your overall game.

Friend Say Golf Tuiion and Lessons Don't Work

One of the major reasons for amateur golfers not having lessons is their friends have asked advice from a pro and have not improved. But in most cases this is because the pupil has not had enough confidence to make the suggested change. ‘How can a minor alteration to the grip stop my big loop’? they ask themselves ‘The Pro must be wrong, it can’t be that simple’.

The pupil might try to make the change for a couple of rounds but soon the advice becomes buried beneath the mass of tips from the latest magazine. It’s human nature, after all, how many people actually change their lifestyles after seeing the doctor.

Golf Lessons Can Improve your Game

The key to seeing an improvement from coaching lies in the attitude of the pupil. If they are willing to follow the suggestions made by the pro they will reap the benefits. But just as in getting used to a new diet or lifestyle change there is usually a period of adjustment. Work through that (even with gritted teeth) and the benefits will far outweigh the pain.

Have a lesson and follow the pros advice.
