Swing Drill for Perfect Technique, John Hoskison
A simple golf swing drill for perfect technique. Hit golf irons and driver inside to out and draw the ball like a pro with a drill to improve plane, path, and balance.

Everything in the golf swing involves a turning motion. The shoulders turn round the spine, the hips respond and turn under the force of the shoulders, even the forearms turn and rotate. The following drill encourages the body to turn naturally to improve every aspect of the golf swing including takeaway, swing path, plane and overall balance.

The drill might seem overly simplistic, but golfers have been using the exercise to simplify and improve the swing since the game was invented. Hitting shots with the feet together is one of the best golf drills a golfer can use to improve their technique

Drill for Perfect Swing Technique and Balance

  • Hitting balls from a normal stance allows a golfer to make mistakes during the swing without falling over. They can move the head, reverse pivot, sway, all manner of faults but still hit the ball. But hitting balls with feet together makes the golfer make a perfect turn.

  • As upright beings, it is intrinsic in our nature to maintain balance therefore, with feet together our bodies automatically find the most efficient swing to keep us from falling over. Hitting shots with feet together very quickly encourages a golfer to make a perfect turn off a single axis.
Release from Inside Out to Draw Ball

  • Go to the range with a bucket of balls and a seven iron.
  • Warm up with a few shoulder turn exercises and then when ready put a ball on a tee.
  • Make a few practice swings with your feet together (touching) before you attempt to hit the ball.
  • There is no need to analyse this swing drill, simply swing away and let your body find the most efficient technique. All the golfer has to do is think about maintaining balance.
  • At first you might not be able to hit the ball and even if you do, it might be without power as the body experiments to find the correct swing.
  • Persevere and very quickly you will find how to make a swing while maintaining balance.
  • When your body finds the correct technique you will swing into impact from the inside and release naturally for a draw.
  • After hitting a series of shots where you are able to maintain balance in the finish start to separate the feet, inch by inch, to a normal stance.

Why the Drill Improves Backswing and Downswing Technique

  • With the feet together the golfer will automatically turn away from the ball using a one piece takeaway.
  • As the swing builds momentum the club will automatically fire onto the correct backswing plane.
  • Swinging through the correct halfway back position the club will travel to the top of the backswing into the perfect position.
  • From the correct top of backswing position the golfer will be able to accelerate confidently into impact from the inside to naturally draw the ball.
  • Trust this drill - it is one of the best to improve golf swing technique and help build a perfect swing.
