Golf Lessons Through University Affiliated Golf Courses

Prepare for a good golf season with professional instruction from a golf teaching professional or university golf team coach.

For those who live in colder climates, the long awaited golf season has finally arrived. One way to have a good golf season, is to begin the with some professional golf instruction. Many golf courses offer refreshers allowing you to correct some problems while brushing up on your skills.

Golf courses affiliated with universities are a very economical and reliable place to get lessons. Courses may be taught by the golf team coaches, or in cases where the university offers a professional golf management program, instructors/professors may oversee the lessons.

Michigan State University (East Lansing) - Forest Akers Golf Course is the golf club of Michigan State University. It is recognized as one of the best public golf courses in Michigan. Forest Akers offers many different learning programs for golfers. One can take lessons on their lunch hour, participate in one of the performance clinics or take private lessons from one of the teaching professionals. Rates range from $60-$75/hour. If coming from out of town, you can stay at the university hotel - the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center or one of several hotels in East Lansing.

University of Nebraska (Lincoln) - Wilderness Ridge Golf Club is the primary course for the universities professional golf management program. It was recognized as one of the best new facilities by Golf Inc. in 2003. Private lessons run about $60 per hour. Play and stay at the Chase Suite Hotel in Lincoln.

University of Kansas - The Jayhawks are proud to be the 2008 NCAA Men's Basketball Champions. Thus, this is a great time to visit Lawrence and enjoy some golfing. Alvamar Country Club is the home of the Jayhawks' Golf Team. Alvamar offers a 9 hole playing lesson for $125. If coming from out of town, there is a beautiful historical hotel near the campus known as the Eldridge Hotel.

University of Maryland - Located in College Park, MD, the University of Maryland golf course offers several different options for improving your golf game this year. Private lessons are available at the rate of $50 per 45 minute sessions. Playing lessons, group instruction and golf clinics are also available. Beginners can take six hours of instruction for as low as $125.

University of Wisconsin - Madison is the capitol of Wisconsin and the home of the Wisconsin Badgers. Lessons at University Ridge (the Universities golf course) are taught by the coaching staff. Private instruction runs about $60 per hour. A refresher course "Re-Charger" is available for those looking to brush up on their skills for the season. The cost for this program is $100 for four sessions.

These are just a few examples of the programs offered at university/university affiliated golf clubs. Purdue University, Syracuse University and the University of Utah also offer instruction at their university golf courses.
