Head position to hit the ball better. Head position for better golf shots. Learn to change your swing path, for straighter golf shots, with a different head position.

The way your shoulders work, particularly on the golf downswing, is responsible for the overall shape of your swing path coming into impact. If you can learn to adjust this you will hit the golf ball better.

While there are many things that influence your shoulders, nearly all the damage can be over ridden with a change to your head position at address. Adjust your head position to control the ball better and start hitting straighter golf shots.

Change Head Position to Stop Slicing

In most circumstances the ‘out to in’ swing path of a slicer is caused by a poor shoulder action. With lessons, and time, a golfer can get to the root of the problem, but in many circumstances the reason for the incorrect move can be over ridden with an adjustment to the head position at address.

During the swing of a slicer, the head position becomes influenced by the poor shoulder action. We know, quite categorically, that at impact the shoulders of a slicer are aiming left. We also know that as the shoulders swing open they pull the head into the wrong position.

If you can put your head into the correct position at address, and importantly, keep it there during the swing, often it influences the shoulders in a positive way. The key is making sure the head stays at the new angle until impact.

Stop Hooking with New Head Angle

The cure for someone who hooks the ball is exactly the same. A change in the head position at address can affect the way the shoulders work and can stop a swing path that is too inside.

New Golf Stance to Hit the Ball Better

If you slice you need to adjust your head and reposition it so it is tilted to the right. This means your right cheek will be closer to your right shoulder than your left cheek is to your left shoulder. In effect a line drawn through your eyes will be aiming right of target. The more you want to stop slicing, the more you aim your eye line to the right.

It is exactly the opposite for someone who wants to stop hooking. Tilt you head to the left so a line through your eyes would be aiming left of target.

How to Improve Your Golf

Your new head position will definitely straighten your shots, the problem is your body won’t like what you have done. Over the thousands of shots you have hit, your head has become used to the old position, and no matter how committed you are, your head will want to slip back to it’s old angle.

The success or failure of this change is up to you. Ask any professional and they will tell you the result of a new move is down to the commitment of the pupil. All too often, unfortunately, the pupil will try it for a few shots and then slip back into his comfort zone.

For once commit to this change. Adjust your head angle and stick with it until you start hitting better and straighter shots.
