How the Golf Swing Should Feel – Golf Pro TipsGolf Exercise to Feel Swing for Golf Power and Control of Golf Ball
Feel the correct golf swing by practicing this exercise. Understand the feel of a pro swing, the feel of a golf swing where hands arms shoulders and legs work together
To experience what a good golf swing feels like takes the learning process to another level. It's all very well being told what to do, but if you can feel what you should be doing, learning a good golf swing becomes much easier. First understand what you should be doing, and then practice this exercise to see what a good swing should feel like. Good Golf TechniqueA good golf swing is one that enables a golfer to hit the ball consistently well. This means at impact, the club head delivers a square blow into the back of the ball, for maximum compression and minimum sidespin. Poor technique leads to a glancing blow across the ball imparting sidespin. To hit the ball squarely, with power, everything must be working together through the impact area; hands, arms, upper body and legs. If any department stops working it leads to a glancing blow. But most amateur golfers know this already, so knowledge alone obviously isn’t enough. The following exercise is designed to let you feel what your muscles should be doing when you make a full swing at the ball. How the Golf Swing Should FeelUsing a seven iron, take up your stance over a golf ball making sure you have a target in mind. Put the club head right up against the ball. When you are ready, and without a back swing, swing the club from this stationary position right through to the finish position. If you have completed the swing correctly, with everything working together, the ball would have been swept away by the club head thirty yards or so towards the target. If however you have used excessive hand action, the ball would have weakly slipped off the face of the club, effectively a glancing blow, and would have travelled only a couple of yards. Hitting the ball correctly should feel as though you are slinging the ball at the target. This exercise imitates a hockey player taking a penalty. They have no back swing in their action, and literally sling the ball forward. Keep practising this until you feel the ball is almost glued onto the face of the club as you sling it forward. Normally golfers experience a glancing blow where the ball only stays on the blade for a fraction of a second. This exercise will teach a square blow for maximum compression. Power and Control of Golf BallVery quickly you should be able to understand how the swing should feel through the impact area. When you come to hit a normal shot try to feel the same sensation in your follow through to hit the ball more squarely for maximum compression and more power and control. When you venture out onto the course you can still practise this move to retain the feel. Find a piece of rough, ground the club behnd it and then swing forward just as in the exercise. If you watch golf on television you will often see the pros carrying out the same exercise. Related Article - Practise Chipping to Improve Your Long Game - PGA Tip
