Improve feel and golf club head awareness to build a better golf swing. Build better golf swing tchnique by educating the hands to be more aware of the golf club head.
There is a definite process involved in building a better swing. First a golfer has to understand what is wrong with their current swing, which normally involves a lesson. Then they have to be able to swing the club into the new position. But being able to adjust and build a better swing involves feel.
Why Feel is Important to Build a BSwing
Most golfers only know how to swing the club one way. The day a golfer picks up a club certain swing characteristics are formed and normally they become permanent. A golfer might have the occasional lesson but their fundamental swing shape rarely changes.
Think of the friends you play golf with, even if one of them has a course of lessons they still seem to swing the club the same way and hit the ball with the same flight. This is because they don’t have enough feel of the club head to be able to adjust the swing. If a golfer can develop more feel or 'club head awareness' it is much easier to adjust the swing shape and build a better golf swing
How to Develop Club Head Awareness
This is very easy to do as long as the golfer is prepared to let go of the familiar feeling of their own swing and be willing to exaggerate. To be able to change the fundamental swing shape a golfer must experience a whole spectrum of swing feels.
Find a place where you can make a practice swing. To begin with you will not be hitting balls.
Make a swing where you take the club far too much on the inside and too flat, then half way back swing the arms up into the air and point the club to the right at the top of the backswing.
On the downswing start by opening the shoulders and swinging down from the outside. This is a classic swing of someone who slices.
Now make a swing where the club goes outside away from the ball, but from half way back swing the club round on a flat plane. At the top of te bakswing point the club left of target, known as a laid off position.
On the downswing keep the head back to start down on the inside and as you come into the ball from the inside roll the clubface closed. This is the classic swing of someone who hooks.
Be willing to exaggerate and go slowly at first as you build up an understanding of how to manipulate the club.
Make up Your Own Swings
The two swings above are only examples of how much you should experiment with different swings other than your own. Try swinging like your friends, or try copying Jim Furyk’s swing – anything different.
The more you learn to adjust the club to a preconceived plan the more club head awareness you will be developing.
Eventually, when you want to make an adjustment to your own swing, you will be much more capable of feeling your way to the new position.
The more club head awareness you develop the better you will be able to build a good golf swing.
