Whether it's a golf lesson or advice from the doctor preconceived ideas can stop the learning process. Get the right attitude and listen to make the most of a lesson

People often seek advice from a professional, but in many circumstances their preconceived idea of what is wrong inhibits them from being able to take onboard the correct diagnosis and solution. To really benefit from golf lessons, go in with a blank sheet of paper and listen to what the pro has to say.

Make the Most of a Golf Lesson

Nowadays, with easy access to thousands of golf articles and video lessons, most amateur golfers think they have an idea of what is wrong with their game. Likewise most people with an ailment who go to see the doctor have already looked up the symptoms on the Internet. But very often these solutions are incorrect and don’t get to the core of the problem. As they say, a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing.

There can be no substitute for the knowledge of a professional, but far too often the club golfer has already made up their mind what they want to hear. The moment you walk into the teaching bay the golf pro is aware of this from the way you introduce yourself and your body language.

Much of the lesson is then spent on the pro trying to get the golfer to trust them. Rather than being able to spend time teaching, far too much time is spent on justifying their advice.

The Right Attitude

To make the most of a lesson enter with no preconceived ideas and listen to what the pro says. Whatever fault you have the pro will have seen it hundreds of times and will know the best and quickest cure.

Trust is the key here. If your own diagnosis was correct you would have seen an improvement, so if you are still struggling with your game it’s time to hand over the reins to someone who knows what they are doing. If you listen to what the pro tells you to do, even if its contrary to what you thought might be the problem, it will save you much time and wasted effort.

Trust the Professional

Whatever you are told write it down afterward. And during the lesson ask questions if you do not understand. There is nothing more refreshing for a pro to know the pupil trusts them and their advice will be listened to. Ask the best way to practise the new movement or adjustment and then stick to it for however long the pro tells you to.

If you were given a course of antibiotics would you stop taking the tablets after one day if you weren’t feeling better? It sometimes takes time for an adjustment to show results, give the changes time to work into your game.

Quickest Way to Improve

Golf is a passion for a amateur golfer and it is absolutely understandable for them to want to investigate the causes of their own problems, but if you should need help and you fix up a lesson, you must trust the pro you go to see.

The quickest way to improve at golf – simply follow the advice.
