Stop Outside in Golf Swing, Coming from OutsideStop Golf Over the Top Swing and Outside Swing Path at Golf Ball
An outside in swing causes a slice. Change the swing path and hit the golf ball from the inside to stop slicing. Shallow the swing arc to stop coming outside in.
An outside in golf swing is the biggest fault in golf and one of the most frustrating. Getting steep on shots causes big divots that go left, ugly slices that become uncontrollable in a left to right wind, and shots out of the heel that come up short of the green. But being able to change the swing line from ouside in, is very difficult. First a golfer has to find out why they are getting steep on golf shots. Reasons for Outside in SwingThe main reason golfers find it hard to change the swing line from the ouside is that it is difficult to find the real cause of the fault. There are many reasons for a steep swing.
Each of these faults requires a different fix, but as there are so many faults it is difficult for a golfer to know what to try. The first, and best bet, would be to have a lesson. A lesson with a golf pro would give you enough information to start to find the answer for your ouside in swing, the diagnosis would normally be correct, then it would be up to you to put in the work. But there is another option? How to Change the Line from the OutsideThe direct result of an outside in swing are divots that fly left. Rather than trying to diagnose the core reason for the slice, if you can change the divot shape you will have changed the line.
The next step is to maintain your new straight path into impact when hitting a ball. This is when you have to show mental discipline. You must not worry where the ball flies. It will probably still slice because the hands will have to learn to square up the blade. But if you can maintain a better line and not so much from the outside, the hands will start to release correctly. The key to success in this exercise is the mental toughness you show in ignoring the ball. Focus on hitting divots into the umbrella, nothing else.
